What will you do in this role?
We are looking for an experienced, self-motivated R&D Engineering Program Manager to join our talented cross-functional team which is developing cutting-edge technology and products for optical communication, industrial and consumer applications. The candidate will play a crucial role in coordinating product development programs and the activities of various program stakeholders (R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Product Engineering, Suppliers). He/she will also participate frequently in communications with customers, upper management and product line management.
Lead multi-disciplinary cross-functional team as program manager for high-volume manufacturing (10-100+ M units/yr) of low-cost optical components to be transferred to contract manufacturer; Develop and manage project schedules with engineering teams and communicate project status (Technical and Programmatic) to stakeholders, upper management and customers; Works closely with project team members on conceptual design, vendor and equipment interactions, package prototyping, testing, and performance characterization; Identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, and facilitate conflict resolution. What experience will allow you the greatest success in this role?
Demonstrated successful program management of large (>10 HC) multi-$M R&D projects (cost, schedule, performance); >5 years of experience leading technically-complex projects and proven hands-on product development and project management skills; Background in high volume (10-100M/units per yr) R&D and manufacturing of low-cost components (<~ $1/unit); Knowledge of Contract Manufacturer (CM) assembly/equipment capabilities (particularly in Asia); Strong decision-making ability to troubleshoot problems and bring resolution; Excellent knowledge of product life cycle and processes and tools for project planning; Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong team player, self-starter and detail-oriented; Familiarity with photonics, semiconductor laser diodes/ICs or LED’s; Experience in conceptual design, vendor interaction, package prototyping, testing, and performance characterization; Experience with high-volume, low-cost laser diode packaging for consumer applications is desirable; Familiar with six-sigma techniques, e.g., design for manufacturability/reliability (DFx), SPC and ISO9001 certification; Comfortable and effective interfacing directly with customers; Education should be MS in optical, electrical, physical engineering or equivalent with 15+ years of experience in optoelectronics, Si IC or magnetic-storage industry.
